New recipe book inspires kids to eat well
Port Hedland Primary School students cooked up a storm to celebrate the launch of Foodbank WA’s new ‘Best of Healthy Recipes for All’ recipe book, designed to encourage healthy eating and cooking amongst kids.
The ‘Best of Healthy Recipes for All’ recipe book includes 12 recipes that are tasty, nutritious, easy and fun to make. The recipes have also been designed to be affordable and made with readily available ingredients.
Foodbank WA Public Health Nutritionist, Leisha Aberle said “we are so excited to be able to provide students a copy of our fantastic new recipe book, as it’s filled with healthy and tasty step-by-step recipes that they can enjoy cooking at home. Essentially we are teaching these students important life skills of choosing and cooking healthy foods.”
“The Nanna’s Curry recipe is actually my Nanna’s, so I enjoy sharing this story with the students to inspire them to find favourite recipes of their own that they can cook with their mum, dad, aunty or grandma”, said Miss Aberle.
Foodbank WA has been delivering its Food Sensations Schools program in the region since 2011. Thanks to renewed funding from BHP Billiton, the not-for-profit has increased its number of visits to Pilbara communities to ten this year and is also rolling out two new programs to further promote healthy eating throughout the region. The programs are Food Sensations for Parents of 0-5 year olds and Fuel Your Future for youth 12 -18 years.
