Maya’s Story

When Maya lost her job through injury, she didn’t know how she was going to pay bills and buy enough food for herself and her daughter. At first she borrowed money from her family to try and get through, however it got to the point that she would open her fridge and it would be empty.

She remembered thinking that if she didn’t go shopping, she was going to starve. She made do with meals like pasta and corn. It wasn’t nice and she knew she needed to reach out for help, not only for herself, but for her daughter.

Maya was referred to Foodbank WA through one of our charity partners and is extremely grateful for the help that she received.
